' I have actually discovered that books can carry children to another place.' Judith has actually been volunteering as a bedside reader at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust since 2003. After retiring from mentor, Judith wished to continue to use her storytelling abilities to assist children who are badly. 'I had always taken pleasure in reading to the children in school at the end of the day. You could see them noticeably unwind and be absorbed by the story. I thought this might also use to children in health center. I volunteer on the kids's oncology wards in the health center. I have actually witnessed the interruption checking out a story can do to support the personnel. The kids are little heroes. To witness their guts is a privilege.' Mark joined the NHS in his 30s after leaving his family's service without any official certifications, however a drive to make a difference. He started as a psychological health support worker and went on to train as a basic nurse. He qualified at 37 and spent the next twenty years gradually rising. He even went back to work in the exact same health center ward he was born in, handling the role of ward manager. Today, he's the Associate Director of Nursing at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. ' I tried to switch off a bedside lamp and seemed like something wasn't ideal with me. I knew immediately it was a stroke.' In July 2023, after an active vacation kayaking and walking, Bob suddenly had a stroke. He was flown by air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he invested four weeks rehabilitating. 'I used the health club regularly and did neurorehabilitation online (NROL)'. NROL is a group rehabilitation programme for people who have had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. 'I had a structured schedule which offered me something to eagerly anticipate each week - socially, psychologically and mentally.' Bob thanked NHS personnel for 'the great support' and the ongoing physiotherapy he received. Well done Bob and great work group! Early recognition of stroke symptoms can conserve lives. ' Working together with nurses and seeing the distinction they made inspired me to believe, 'I might do that!" Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who started her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she signed up with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve patients in Hertfordshire. 'I loved assisting individuals and discovering about the body, so nursing just felt right.' Sharon shows. Sharon has worked in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy among others, revealing the vast array of locations in which nurses make a distinction. 'Truly, I can't think of an area where nurses do not make an effect in some type,' Sharon admits. On why her role is special, Sharon discusses, 'The care, kindness, and empathy we bring make the nursing role unique. As patient supporters, we assist guarantee their journey is supported, notified, and truly significant.' There are more than 50 different kinds of nursing functions readily available in the NHS.
